Workshop Overview: The Story Forest workshop, in our Treehouse Trails exhibit, is designed to support emergent literacy skills by encouraging students to interact with letters and words in unique and surprising ways. Students will play, sort, fish and climb their way to letter recognition.

Story Forest Curriculum Guide

Grade Level: Age 3-Kindergarten

Illinois State Learning Standards: 1, 3, 4, 5, 19, 21

Workshop Goals and Objectives:
Students will:

  • Participate together in exploration inside the Treehouse Trails exhibit.
  • Hear and use new vocabulary.
  • Encounter the letters of the alphabet in ways that are meaningful and engaging.
  • Sing songs around a pretend campfire.
  • Crawl, climb and slide with their classmates as they seek out hidden letters and missing words in the pretend forest.
  • Sort, write, match and organize letters in ways that are challenging and interesting to individual students.
  • Complete an adventure story as a class.
  • Use their imagination in an immersive environment.
