Internship Opportunities

Chicago Children's Museum offers many exciting internship opportunities. Our internships enable you to gain valuable experience in your preferred area by working with a supervisor who has extensive knowledge in their field. Although CCM Internships are unpaid, interns enjoy working a part-time schedule of 15-20 hours per week in a friendly, open and relaxed atmosphere.

Arts Learning Intern
The intern is primary responsibility will be working with Arts Learning staff researching, implementing and documenting Kraft Artabounds Studio family programs, which serve our general visitors. Interns will work closely with Arts Learning staff to develop, prepare and lead art activities for family workshops. Interns assist in keeping the studio organized and preparing supplies for workshops. Interns record attendance and assist Arts Learning staff in record keeping. Interns are involved with other programs/special projects on an expressed interest/need basis.
Requirements: Education experience with elementary children, knowledge of and experience with diverse art forms, ability to communicate with and lead groups of people, documentation/photography experience, organization, creativity, flexibility, self-direction, imagination and patience.

Arts Learning ArtReach Intern
ArtReach is a 10 week program for Chicago Children’s Museum partners which focuses on the connections between art and literacy, introduces various art processes, and provides a time and space for families to learn and collaborate together. Activities are conducted for one night a week for five weeks at the partner site and for an additional five weeks in the Kraft Artabounds studio one night a week. The interns’ primary responsibility will be working with Arts Learning staff organizing, implementing and documenting the ArtReach program. Interns will work closely with Arts Learning staff to develop, prepare and lead the home connection portion of the ArtReach program.
Requirements: Education experience with elementary children, knowledge of and experience with diverse art forms, ability to communicate with and lead groups of people, documentation/photography experience, organization, creativity, flexibility, self-direction, imagination and patience.

Passport to the World Intern
The Passport to the World (PPTW) intern will work closely with the Director of Cultural programs to develop programs and activities that educate CCM visitors on a wide range of diverse communities and cultures. Primary responsibilities will be assisting with logistics and operations of PPTW events during internship term, documentation of the impact of program participation through interviews, photos and collection of artifacts and helping with day to day needs of the Community Connections Department.
Requirements: Experience or interest in working with diverse people, research skills, strong Communication skills (verbal and written), and availability to work some weekends and evenings.

Family Programs Intern
The Family Programs Intern will learn about museum programs for families by preparing, facilitating, and evaluating scheduled hands-on activities for the public. Tasks include and creating, piloting, and evaluating a new Family Programs Activity, assisting with organizing materials, brainstorming ideas, and working alongside museum staff, developing, facilitating and evaluating a new Family Programs Activity Plan and reporting results to the team and department, attending and contributing to staff and team meetings and training sessions and maintaining and reporting records of programs.
Requirements: Strong interpersonal skills, creativity, proven ability to organize groups and projects, excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience working with children and families, knowledge of computer systems a plus (word processing, desktop publishing), flexibility, team player

Health & Wellness Green Expo Intern
The Health and Wellness Green Expo intern will work closely with the Community Programs Manager and the CC, Education, Marketing, and Development teams to review existing healthcare initiatives that educate, inform, and inspire caregivers about ways to make our environment, homes and lives safer, healthier, and happier places for our children. Provide  engaging, interactive learning opportunities for visitors to learn about the environment; research health and wellness initiatives as relates to museum, revise and/or develop new healthcare initiatives, and assist w/the plan to execute these initiatives. The intern will research, plan, promote, execute, provide follow up, and report on CCM’s “It’s Easy Being Green Expo” to include presentations, demonstrations, and activities on a variety of topics including music, art, environment, and food.
Requirements: Experience or interest working w/diverse people, Research, Strong Communication Skills (oral and written), Program Planning and Event Management

Community Connections Marketing Intern
Chicago Children's Museum is committed to ensuring that all families access the museum without barriers.  The Community Connections team seeks to research, develop and implement marketing strategies that are effective in communicating our subsidized visit options to current and new community-based organizations. The Community Connections Marketing Intern’s responsibilities will include, research, gather information, and produce cases study that documents and exemplifies CCM’s approach to community engagement, conduct site visits and/or attend community meetings, document and archive the progress of Community Connections team and relationships developed in targeted communities, create systems and processes to continue ongoing documentation of community engagement, support Community Connections team in meeting attendance goals on Free Family Nights, and communicate with various CCM departments to ensure effective internal collaboration
Requirements: Interest in working with low-income and diverse communities, Excellent communication skills including writing samples, Ability to work independently, Ability to multi-task in order to meet deadlines for multiple projects, Time-management skills, Experience and/or interest conducting research, Preferred:  experience and/or interest in education and community relationships
