Chicago, IL—Children and families can meet their neighbors from around the city at Block Party—the only kid-size block party open now at Chicago Children's Museum (CCM).
"Block Party has really become a tradition families look forward to year after year," said President and CEO Jennifer Farrington. "This exhibit embodies summer in Chicago, and there's something to do for children and families of all ages and abilities."
Visitors can look forward to new features and old favorites. For future rock stars, The Stage is sure to be a hit. Guests can grab a guitar and be the center of attention, while their families sit on the "lawn" and watch from a picnic table or comfy picnic blanket. Every Friday in June and July at 2:30 p.m., CCM's Family Programs team will offer Block Party Rock. Kids can sing, dance and jam to classic rock.
At The Pizza Stand, kids can create pretend pizzas. Aprons, a variety of toppings and even a realistic "wood-burning" pizza oven contribute to the experience. Other familiar components include The Ice Cream Cart and Grill and Wok where guests can prepare a variety of meals and treats for your hungry customers. New additions like The Hot Dog Cart, Helados Cart, Corn Hole games and an area specifically for children under age five round out this celebration of summer in the city.
Throughout the summer, kids age 15 and under can enjoy the exhibit for free the first Sunday of every month for Target Free First Sundays, and Kraft Free Family Night every Thursday night from 5:00-8:00 p.m. offers free admission for everyone. Block Party runs through September 7, 2009.
