Be Safe This Halloween

Dress Up Smartly
•Make sure costumes are made of flame-retardant material.
• Avoid costumes that drag on the ground.
• Shoes should fit children's feet.
•Don't let kids carry sharp or stick-like props.
•Make sure children can see, even if it means taking off their masks.
•Add reflective markings or tape if kids will be outside at dusk or after dark.

Trick-or-Treat Together
•Adults should go with children.
•Only go to doorways with lights.
•Never go inside someone's home.
•Carry a flashlight.
•Stay on the sidewalk.
•Hold hands.
•Remember to say, "Thank you!"

Avoid Belly Aches
•Eat dinner before you go trick-or-treating or to a party.
• Wait until you're home from trick-or-treating before opening any treats. •Inspect all the food your child collects. Toss out any food that may have been tampered with.
•Don't allow children under the age of seven to eat popcorn or whole nuts since they might choke.
•Set a limit. Tell children to pick three pieces of candy. Save the rest for another day.
