FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 13, 2008

Chicago, IL—Chicago Children's Museum (CCM) will Celebrate African-American Heritage and feature programs honoring the history and traditions surrounding Black History Month throughout February. The celebration kicked off February 7 with a performance by the Betty Shabazz International Charter School. Kraft Free Family Nights every Thursday from 5-8pm, and Saturdays February 16 and 23 from 1-4pm will feature art activities, performances, community resources and more.

Enjoy the musical stylings of eight-year-old violinist Max Lulich this Thursday, February 14. Get footloose and fancy-free on February 21 with a special tap dance by Reggio "the Hoofer." The celebration concludes February 28 with singing and stories as Your Favorite Story Tellers, D. Kucha Brownlee and Baba Tony Brown give you the history of the banjo.

Discover the art of hair-braiding in HAIRitage: Locs & Braids. Families and children can create a story together and record it on a CD to take home in Stories Connect Us. Vision and developmental screenings will be available free of charge.

"We’re proud and excited to celebrate Chicago’s African-American community by featuring Black History Month programming throughout February,” said CCM CEO Peter England. “We value diversity and the opportunities for families and children to connect and celebrate what makes each child special and unique."
