The Red Kite Project is an innovative and highly-interactive production for young people with autism. Children and specially-trained performers work together to create a unique performance using multi-sensory techniques that may include water and bubbles, paper fans, perfume sprays, music, colorful costumes, and video projections. Performers are trained to respond sensitively and tailor each experience to the individuals with whom they are working.
Participation requires pre-registration and is open to school groups and family groups with children who have autism. Each performance will accommodate up to seven children, allowing the performers to work closely with them and adapt the program to meet their individual needs and interests. The entire experience lasts approximately two hours, including a 40-minute performance, time to view the Red Kite Art Gallery, and a break time (we highly recommend you bring lunch and/or snacks). Larger groups will be broken up into smaller groups that rotate through each part of the program.
Price: $5.00 per child for admission to the museum
(Caregivers are admitted free of charge.)
• Due to space limitations, only one caregiver per child may be allowed into the performance. Additional adults may be able to observe on a first come first serve basis.
• The visit to Chicago Children’s Museum may be used following the performance or at a later date.
• Each additional family member will be charged normal admission fee ($9.00) to enter the museum.
