Skyline

Image_for_permitDesign your own skyscraper and enhance your understanding of the science, engineering, art, and technology behind what keeps Chicago’s tallest buildings standing, in Skyline, CCM’s newest permanent exhibit, funded by the National Science Foundation.

Are you ready for the Skyscraper Challenge? The sky’s the limit on what you build. Use Chicago’s spectacular cityscape as your inspiration to create the tallest building in Chicago, like the Sears Tower, or one with the most square-footage, like The Merchandise Mart. As you work, a special camera will take photographs that you and your family can narrate and make into your own special story.

But wait—there’s more to this exhibit than just skyscrapers. Try your hand in the Construction Zone, and create buildings, vehicles, animals, and other fun fantasy shapes! Learn about what makes buildings stable at Triangles are the Strongest Shape. Witness the Trump Tower being built in the Trump Tower Time Lapse.

Skyline will give even the youngest visitors a new appreciation for Chicago’s tallest buildings.
