"Unicorn" Spinosaurus Discovered!

Travel back over 90 million years this spring at Chicago Children’s Museum when Paleontologist Paul Sereno presents a newly discovered species of Spinosaurus. A replica of the skull and a hands-on interactive component featuring the Spinosaurus’ crest will be installed outside of the beloved Dinosaur Expedition exhibit, which Sereno worked on with the museum in 1999-2001.

In celebration of this new species, the museum will host an event on March 1 at 2 pm where the crest of this Spinosaurus will be unveiled. During the program, families and children will hear from Sereno as he shares more about the dinosaur and his work through images, video, and hands-on artifacts. Plus, during the afternoon, there will be a “create your own crest” activity where children can create a crest of their own to wear.

"Unicorn" Spinosaurus Discovered! an exhibition by University of Chicago Fossil Lab will be on display at Chicago Children’s Museum from March 1, through September 14, 2026. The exhibit is generously supported by a grant from Globe Foundation.
